Rieger’s Bottled-in-Bond Whiskey Returns For 2023

Kansas City’s J. Rieger & Co. recently announced the return of its Rieger’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond for 2023.

Last year was the first release of their Bottled-in-Bond expression, but the limited number of bottles didn’t last long (as it was a relatively limited production run from six years prior).

“In distilling you have to have patience, and we are finally seeing it pay off,” said Master Distiller Nathan Perry. “We are really excited about this year’s release of bottled-in-bond bourbon.”

He said that over the past several years, they’ve seen the momentum in their program grow and are now putting away hundreds of barrels every month.

“We’re looking at a rickhouse full of thousands of barrels. With our capacity for our bottled-in-bond program growing year after year, we look forward to bringing our fans Rieger’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond for generations to come,” Perry added.

The 2023 Bottled-in-Bond expression comes aged six years in American white oak barrels and bottled at 100 proof in accordance with Bottled-in-Bond regulations. And this year’s release will see significantly more bottles in select markets across the country, the distiller explained.

To note, Rieger’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey Bottled-in-Bond recently garnered a double gold medal at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, where it was also one of three finalists for Best in Class in the Bourbon category.

The distiller noted that each batch of this bottled-in-bond comes from a mash bill of 56% corn, 30% rye, and 14% malted barley. It’s then distilled on J. Rieger & Co.’s 750-gallon copper pot still before being aged for six years in 53-gallon American white oak barrels.

The distiller’s notes show that the 100 proof bourbon has distinct notes of tart fruit, dark cherry, and plum. It has a retail price of $60.
