Puncher’s Chance Bourbon Aims To Be A Whiskey Heavyweight

Wolf Spirit Distillery is a somewhat unknown name to lovers of whiskey. Founded in 2017 by a 17-year veteran of Campari, Umberto Luchini, it operates out of Oregon and is perhaps best known to spirits drinkers in general for its association with Tom of Finland Organic Vodka, a vodka out of Finland that’s said to be “named for the eponymous artist who created the gay male ‘leather’ iconography we take for granted today.” It has now recently unveiled its first bourbon as well.

The new Puncher’s Chance Kentucky Straight Bourbon, according to those behind it, is a blend of sourced 4-, 5-, and 6-year-old Kentucky straight bourbons. This brand is said to be “inspired by two great American traditions: whiskey, and fighting for what we believe in.”

“A puncher’s chance means that anyone has the potential to succeed, whatever the odds, if he or she works for it,” said famed sports and entertainment announcer Bruce Buffer, also known as the “Voice of Mixed Martial Arts,” in a prepared statement (he is associated with this new whiskey). “Being the underdog is often the greatest strength. Puncher’s Chance is the bourbon for everyone who believes and lives that credo.”

As it stands now plans call for this bourbon, bottled at 45% ABV and pricing around $35 per 750 ml bottle, to be available in a range of states, including FL, TX, CA, KY, WI, MA, RI, MN, IN, GA, TN and MI. Official tasting notes indicate this whiskey “leads with caramel, spicy, slightly sweet, and creamy vanilla notes. The palate shows complex oaky sweetness alongside orange, dark chocolate, leather, and baking spices.

“The finish is long with sweet maple and sugar notes.”

Cask Fraud Addressed in Scottish Parliament

The potential impacts of cask investment fraud on the scotch whisky industry was discussed in the Scottish Parliament in April 2024, hopefully paving the way for more regulation within the industry.
