Pinhook Bourbon recently announced its latest debut and its most limited-edition release in the brand portfolio. Introducing Vertical Series Bourbon 8-Year, blended and proofed to be different from any other sipper in the Pinhook collection.
The Vertical Series 8-Year Bourbon is blended from 120 of what’s described as their “most high-quality barrels.” Official tasting notes from this release indicate to “expect aromas of orange curacao, oloroso sherry, clove and brown sugar when nosing the sipper, however, it expresses notes of cherry, plum, cinnamon and burnt sugar.
The Vertical Series is seen as “a unique opportunity to follow a group of 1,350 MGP barrels as they age from four to 12 years and experience the arc of flavors throughout the nine-year journey.” Every year, Pinhook selects a group of bourbon barrels from the lot and blends and proofs them to create “the most balanced expression of the whiskey at that age.” The Vertical Series began with the inaugural 4-Year release in 2019, and the journey will continue through annual releases up to age 12.
Staying true to its racehorse roots, Pinhook showcases a thoroughbred on each bottle. The Vertical Series Bourbon bottles all feature Bourbon War, who raced and won at Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Gulfstream Park, Keeneland, Pimlico Race Course, and Saratoga.

The Vertical Series casks are aged and blended at Castle & Key, the former Old Taylor Distillery, in Frankfort, Kentucky, with which the brand has held a distilling partnership since 2017.
