Penelope Bourbon’s Latest A Special Spanish Wine Cask Finish

Penelope Bourbon recently debuted a new bourbon that’s been finished in rather unique Vino de Naranja casks from Spain.

The new Penelope Valencia Bourbon, according to those behind it, is finished for a year in former Vino de Naranja casks. Vino de Naranja is a 97-proof wine that ages in oak wine barrels and extracts its flavor from orange peels from Spain. The whiskey for this release is the latest addition to the brand’s Cooper Series; a series which pairs Penelope’s straight whiskeys with wine casks from wine making regions around the world.

“At Penelope, we aspire to go above and beyond the norm of any cask finish whiskey we work on by constantly evolving the product,” said Michael Paladini, CEO and Co-Founder of Penelope Bourbon, in a prepared statement. “Including Vino de Naranja in our Cooper Series was the perfect next step for us because the fusion of the wine’s flavor profile and our four grain bourbon compliment each other so well.”

Penelope Valencia Bourbon, said in official tasting notes to be “rich and bold on the palate” and with “deep citrus flavors from the coasts of Spain,” is bottled at 97 proof. It is available now at online retailers and at select liquor stores nationwide (MSRP $75). The limited-release production run is capped at 1,500 cases.
