Old Kentucky Bourbon Appraisal Event A Reason To Blow Dust Off That Bottle

If you have some old Kentucky bourbon bottles or related paraphernalia collecting dust in your basement, there’s a chance you would be better off taking them down off the shelf and getting yourself over to The Filson Historical Society’s headquarters in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. This renowned bourbon historical archive is hosting, as part of the upcoming Kentucky Bourbon Affair, an appraisal event to give you an idea of how much your piece of American whiskey history might be worth.

The event, being held on June 6, will offer both advice and appraisals on rare bourbon items, including bottles and time-worn whiskey advertisements. Mike Veach, an acclaimed bourbon historian and a member of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, will provide background on brands and items, according to the Society, while Bill Thomas, owner of the Jack Rose Dining Saloon in Washington, D.C., will be on-hand to appraise whiskey bottles.

“Last year a man brought a collection of pre-Prohibition advertisements that were stunning,” Veach said in a statement. “We’re definitely looking forward to seeing the Bourbon treasures tucked away in local attics and basements.”

Though this event will be free, a $10 donation is encouraged to support The Filson’s programs. Participants must e-mail [email protected] to register in advance, and those who are ticket holders will “be asked to submit photographs and descriptions of their items beforehand. Similar items might be grouped together for analysis and discussion to ensure an efficient and smooth process.”
