Jim Beam Distiller's Masterpiece Bourbon Finished In Ex-Sherry Casks Pops Up In Retail Stores

Friday afternoon is usually a tranquil time here at The Whiskey Wash as I wrap up things for the week and settle in for a nice weekend of relaxing with some of my favorite bourbons and Scotch. As I was doing this I got an email from one merchant about new whiskey releases in stock at their San Francisco, California location. To my surprise I saw highlighted a rare bottle of Jim Beam Distiller’s Masterpiece. This $200 bourbon is normally only for sale through the Jim Beam American Stillhouse in Kentucky, so I was a little surprised to see it pop up on the West Coast.

A little further digging and, low and behold, it turns out Beam, pretty quietly from what I can tell, is shipping an unknown number of these former Stillhouse exclusives to retailers around the US, including some you may be able to buy a bottle or two from online. The bourbon in question, which was initially announced by the large distiller early last year to celebrate Kentucky’s horse racing season, is said to be extra aged, meaning likely in the 10 to 12 year range. It was then finished in Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks, resulting in what’s likely one of the first domestic bourbons ever treated in this regard.

As you can see from the picture this limited edition, 100 proof release comes in a slick little bottle. If it holds true as well to what was originally just for sale at the Stillhouse, it should come packaged in a luxury wooden case also, which you can see pictured below.

Merry Christmas from Jim Beam for bourbon collectors? Perhaps!
