Garrison Brothers Distillery recently announced the release date for the 2022 version of Guadalupe, a port-cask finished bourbon that’s bottled at 107 proof.
Named after the winding Lone Star State river, this Guadalupe release of over 4,900 bottles will be available across the country starting Aug. 1st.
The story of the Guadalupe expression started in 2015 when Garrison Brothers teamed up with one of Texas’ oldest winemakers, Llano Estacado. After using the winery’s port casks to age a four-year-old bourbon to make Garrison Brothers’ 2019 limited Texas straight bourbon whiskey, Estacado, the distiller started to search Portugal for a more expansive port cask bourbon project.

And that was Guadalupe, which Master Distiller Todd said in a statement “is such a beautiful, bold bourbon with an amazingly long fruit-forward finish.”
Todd noted that Guadalupe’s flavor characteristic is that of the sweet wine including berries, caramel, cinnamon and chocolate sauce. Port casks have great appeal to a bourbon maker, he said, with older tawny ports offering an even wider array of subtle flavors including graphite, green peppercorn, hazelnut, almond, butterscotch, and graham cracker.
Garrison Brothers found the combination of four years in white American oak casks followed by two years in the tawny port casks to be the secret. Todd selected ninety 30-gallon bourbon barrels that had been originally filled in 2016. The angel’s share losses were about 13 gallons per barrel, leaving 1,530 gallons of bourbon to be used.
“Guadalupe is best enjoyed any way you like it. I can’t think of a better way to drink my dessert. And, I’ll pair that delicious nectar with my favorite chocolate, if I’m looking for a really good time.” said Founder Dan Garrison.
