Exploring Bourbon Pompeii At Buffalo Trace In A Super Sleek 3D Way

The recent discovery of older distillery foundations and related materials while Buffalo Trace was digging in one of its buildings to create a new events and meeting space sparked quite a bit of interest in those who love bourbon history and lore. Said project was then nicknamed Bourbon Pompeii and the distillery put out news/photos on it. While these were certainly interesting, what would really have been great would have been on site access. Failing that, however, we bring you instead a rather intriguing “3D scan of the site and an amazingly detailed walk through of the finding” that you’ll find at the end of this story.

For a quick little background, remnants of walls, a cistern, and 11,000-gallon fermenters were unearthed during the recent excavation. Buffalo Trace brought in several experts to help them assess what had been unearthed, leading to an interesting historical exploration of what once went on in this part of the distillery’s large campus.
