Chicken Cock Whiskey Brings Forth a 10 Year Old Bourbon - The Whiskey Wash

Chicken Cock Whiskey Brings Forth a 10 Year Old Bourbon

The historic Chicken Cock whiskey brand, currently owned by a company out of Florida known as Grain & Barrel Spirits, is in the process of becoming its own original spirit through distillation at Bardstown Bourbon Company in Kentucky. While this white whiskey ages in barrel, the label continues to source for its bottlings, with the latest being a ten year old “double barrel” bourbon.

The Chicken Cock 10-Year-Old Double Barrel Bourbon, according to those behind it, is a limited edition American whiskey that’s been sourced from MGP in Indiana. For this release the brand’s master distiller Gregg Snyder is said to have “selected twelve barrels of 10-year-old bourbon, marrying two barrels at a time to create a perfectly balanced, extremely smooth, small batch bourbon.” A high rye style bourbon with a mash bill that’s 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley, it was bottled at 104 proof.

“From the day I discovered Chicken Cock Whiskey, my goal was to eventually return the brand to its ancestral home,” said Matti Anttila, CEO of Grain & Barrel Spirits, in a prepared statement. “The historic brand is now officially 100% back home in Kentucky, a mere 80 miles from Paris, where its story began 162 years ago. The legend of Chicken Cock never died. In fact, we believe that the brand’s best years are still ahead of it.”

Plans call for just 1,980 bottles of Chicken Cock 10-Year-Old Double Barrel Bourbon to be made available, pricing at around $250 per 750 ml bottle. You’ll find some official tasting notes below for this warm, rich amber colored whiskey.
