Online Whiskey Marketplace BottleSpot Gets Into Auctions

The recent closure of American based whiskey auction site DustyBid left many secondary whiskey market sellers without an online destination to connect with related buyers. Online spirits, wine and craft beer marketplace site BottleSpot looks to have an answer to this situation, however, recently unveiling its own auction functionality as part of a site overhaul.

BottleSpot, which, as a matter of disclosure, is an advertiser on The Whiskey Wash as of the time of this post, alerted us to the new features on their site in a press release. Besides the new auction experience, there’s also a new “verified user” option which is said to give others “another layer of security” in their dealings with other users during transactions.

“This was a natural next step for us,” said Patrick Corcoran, co-founder of BottleSpot, in a statement. “We want to leave the ability to buy, sell and trade in a classifieds style environment intact, but we also wanted to give sellers the option to place auctions as well. We’ve also added a feedback tool to help sellers build rapport and trust within the community.”

For those unfamiliar with BottleSpot, it launched in the summer of 2013 with classified-style listings for those wanting to connect bottles they were trading or selling with others. Just under 200,000 listings are said to have been placed on here since its inception.

Plans are in the works, by the way, to add more features and tools in the coming year.
