Bar Rescue’s Jon Taffer Debuts His Own “Browned Butter Bourbon”

Hospitality expert and TV star Jon Taffer has developed a new twist on whiskey, calling it Taffer’s Browned Butter Bourbon. And it recently hit liquor store shelves in Las Vegas for its official debut.

Taffer crafted the new whiskey in the heat of a kitchen, inspired by the culinary world. A statement from the whiskey brand noted that Bar Rescue television star Jon Taffer honed skills throughout his 40-year career in the industry that led him to this creation, which serves both cocktail connoisseurs and bourbon enthusiasts.

While producing one of his many episodes of Bar Rescue, Taffer explained, he and his chefs were experimenting in the kitchen when a concept came to him … a way to fuse an indulgent, favorite ingredient with the bold complexity of whiskey.

The result became Taffer’s Brown Butter Bourbon. With Taffer’s long-standing rapport with the city of Las Vegas, he found it was the perfect launching spot for the spirit.

“In my decades of bar and hospitality work, I have seen just about everything when it comes to reimagining spirits or cocktails,” Taffer said. “When the idea of marrying the flavor profiles of whiskey and browned butter hit me, I knew we were onto something unique and special. But that’s where the work began.”

He said it was a challenge to turn the creative inspiration into a premium version of that idea, looking to appeal to not only those new to the spirit, but serious whiskey lovers as well.

“With impeccable taste and vibrant nightlife, Las Vegas and Boston are the perfect cities to help us introduce Taffer’s Browned Butter Bourbon to the world and make our mark in the spirits industry,” he said.

The distiller’s notes show that the Browned Butter Bourbon features aromas of toasted caramel and crème brûlée on the nose, with a mix of heat and sweetness with notes of vanilla and toffee on the palate. It has a sweet, gentle finish with complexity, as well as browned butter and hints of banana.

Taking a popular chef’s ingredient in brown butter and turning it into a bourbon allows Browned Butter Bourbon to be used in a number of ways, Taffer explained. Because of its mix of heat and sweetness, it can replace entire spirits used in other classic cocktails, such as an espresso martini or a margarita.

The Browned Butter Bourbon clocks in 40% ABV and has a suggested retail price of $34.99 for a 750mL bottle. It’s available at retailers in Nevada and Massachusetts with plans for further expansion throughout the country.
