5 Top Whiskey Stories Of The Year At The Whiskey Wash

2015 was a year in which whiskey continued to be a popular trend in the news, with coverage of a range of topics breaking into the news cycle of many mainstream news outlets. Here at The Whiskey Wash we also observed an increase in reading on this topic, with a number of stories being among the top articles read on our whiskey lifestyle website.

Far and away the two most popular stories for us were lists of the most expensive whiskies in the world and the most expensive bourbons domestically. Setting those aside, we present for your consideration below the five most popular whiskey stories for this year on The Whiskey Wash based upon individual page view counts:

  • #5 – Jameson Casemates Is A Stout Barrel Finished Whiskey Treat (8,600+ page views): This story, which we published in late September, talked about how this popular Irish whiskey brand is taking its staple whiskey and finishing it in former Irish whiskey barrels which once housed an Irish craft stout beer. (Editor’s Note: This, interestingly, was the only non bourbon whiskey story to crack the top five.)
  • #4 – 20+ Year Old American Bourbons And Ryes To Know About (9,700+ page views): This story, which we published in mid-June, rounded up a list of rare 20+ year old American bourbons and ryes. (Editor’s Note: We weren’t that surprised to see this one on this list, given the extremely high interest in any American whiskey with an older age statement.)
  • #3 – Buffalo Trace Kills “Failed” 26 Year Old Bourbon Experiment (10,800+ page views): This story, published in late July, brought to light information Buffalo Trace had put out about dumping a 26 year old bourbon no longer fit for bottling. (Editor’s Note: Like the #4 story, the fact this was an older American whiskey plus that it was chosen to be tossed versus put onto retail shelfs made it an interesting read.)
  • #2 – Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Whiskey Coming In October (14,200+ page views): This story, published at the beginning of September, explored a limited edition, nearly $500 per 1-liter bottle release tied to Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday. (Editor’s Note: This one was a curiosity as to why it ended up as the second most popular story on the site. Likely a combination of interest in anything Jack Daniel’s plus the fact more people were researching anything Sinatra.)
  • #1 – So You Wanna Find Some Pappy Van Winkle… (15,800+ page views): This story, published also at the beginning of September, was designed to help offer insights into how one might track down a coveted bottle of Pappy Van Winkle or something from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. (Editor’s Note: It is certainly no shock this article was the top non-list story of the year given the insane interest in anything Van Winkle.)
