First West Rye is a select blend of straight rye whiskeys aged 8, 7, and 6 years and bottled at 105 proof.

The distiller notes that this whiskey showcases distilling from America’s “First West,” which in 1795 was centered on Kentucky, the first state west of the Appalachians.

“After receiving more than 20 awards for our first two releases, we look forward to seeing how whiskey lovers respond to these new additions which continue to demonstrate our blending and flavor-proofing techniques,” said Ricky Johnson, 15 Stars co-founder.

These new releases also feature 15 Stars metal stoppers, inspired by the first U.S. coinage which displayed 15 stars representing Kentucky as the 15th state.

The Triple Cask has a suggested retail price of $179. On the nose, it features layers of baked blackberry with cream, brown sugar, and nutmeg opening up into aromas of leather and cigar box. On the palate, it has notes of dark fruit and nutmeg along with cognac, giving way to caramel and aged oak.

The First West Rye has a suggested retail price of $89. On the nose, it has aromas of floral, dried fruit, and spice. The palate features dried apricot, ginger, cinnamon, green tea, and lavender with hints of dark cocoa, herbal tea, honey, and tobacco.

Started by father and son entrepreneurs Rick and Ricky Johnson, 15 Stars is a tribute to more than 225 years of Kentucky bourbon craftsmanship and pays homage to Kentucky, America’s 15th state. And 15 Stars distills and bottles at Bardstown Bourbon Company in Bardstown, Kentucky.
