Wood’s High In Colorado Debuts Aluminum Whiskey Bottle For Backcountry

Wood's High Backcountry BottleWhen you live in Colorado, you find yourself with greater opportunity than residents of most other states to get out and enjoy the outdoors. If you are a whiskey lover you, of course, want to take your favorite spirit with you on weekend getaways into the backcountry. Yet glass bottles can tragically break, spilling whiskey everywhere.

PT Wood, the co-owner and head distiller at Wood’s High Mountain Distillery, has experienced this problem in the past. To that end, he has recently introduced a new aluminum bottle designed to go where your other whiskey bottles cannot.

The new Wood’s High Backcountry Bottle is a resealable, 750-ml aluminum bottle that lets you safely take your whiskey on a range of experiences, including camping, river rafting trips, festivals, and backcountry hut trips. Inside the bottle is the distillery’s Tenderfoot Whiskey, a malt expression made from five malted grains (three barley malts, malt rye, malt wheat) and aged in new American oak before hitting this special bottle at 45% ABV.

“After years of taking glass bottles on numerous rafting and backcountry ski trips, we’ve been looking for a lighter, non-glass alternative for spirits,” said Wood in a prepared statement. “When the opportunity to package our spirits in aluminum bottles became available, we had to jump on it, and we’re thrilled to have it available to our customers.”

Besides pitching the Backcountry Bottle as an outdoor container for your booze, Wood’s High is also playing up other aspects of the bottle, including environmental benefits over glass. For the distillery, this means lighter weight for transportation and lower impact from manufacturing as a result of the high recycled content used in the its manufacturing process.

No immediate price was given for the Wood’s High Backcountry Bottle from the distillery. The regular Tenderfoot Whiskey is averaging around $42 at retail right now for a reference point.
