WhistlePig’s Latest 18 Year Finished In PX Sherry Casks

One of the most venerable of the bottlings from WhistlePig out of Vermont is the Double Malt Rye. Clocking in at 18 years old, it is now on its fourth edition for the rye focused distillery.

The Double Malt Rye: 4th Edition, according to those behind it, has been aged some 18 years, having first been distilled from a mash bill of rye, malted rye and malted barley. The percentages of these – 79%, 15%, 6% respectively – deliver each of their own unique flavor characteristics to the final product which, for this offering, has been finished in Spanish PX sherry casks.

It is said by the brand this additional cask finish helps the whiskey to have highlighted flavor notes of “sweet and aromatic flavors of toasted almonds, caramel and smoked maple.”

Bottled at 92 proof, this whiskey will come in a decanter that’s capped by a one of a kind, handmade glass topper. WhistlePig noted of it that “dreamed up by Shoreham, Vermont’s leading, local, one-wheeling, glass artist, this year’s design was then crafted by independent, family-owned glass makers.”

Though no price has yet been mentioned by WhistlePig, it has been mentioned on social media the WhistlePig Double Malt Rye: 4th Edition is pricing around $400 per 750 ml bottle. You’ll find some tasting notes for it below from the distillery.
