WhistlePig, having been around a decade now, recently celebrated this anniversary with the release of a rye whiskey housed in a 1-liter replica pig decanter that “proudly pours from the rear.”
WhistlePig Piggybank Rye, according to those behind it, is a commemorative Straight Rye Whiskey aged 10 years and bottled at 110 proof in a 1-liter replica Berkshire Bitter Pig decanter that pours from the backside. In conjunction with the launch, WhistlePig auctioned an original 19th-century, antique Berkshire Bitter Pig filled with 20-year-old Rye Whiskey – 10 years for the first decade, 10 for the next – at an auction hosted by Christie’s in June 2022. The lot closed for $125,000 by winning bidder Rally 2 Give, with all proceeds benefiting “the next generation of world citizens via the Gumball 3000 Foundation.”
In addition to the decanter, Rally 2 Give was invited to custom finish a barrel of WhistlePig Rye Aged 20 Years in a selection from WhistlePig’s experimental barrel warehouse, which holds rare wine and spirits casks from the four corners of the world (including but not limited to a one-of-a-kind fairground hotdog barrel). The non-profit is planning to use this barrel to further support their own philanthropic efforts.

“We won our first ‘Best Rye’ award for an innovative whiskey release in 2012,” said Jeff Kozak, WhistlePig CEO, in a prepared statement. “And we haven’t stopped experimenting since. We’ve broken ground on nine Rye grain and experimental crop fields across 500 acres in Vermont, fermented yeast foraged from a ham’s hind, delivered the Great Beer Rescue, countless epic finishes, and even a whiskey fueled car.
“We’re erasing the boundaries of traditional whiskey making in an attempt to bring you the best of Rye the best way we know how – big, bold and unapologetic.”
WhistlePig 10 Limited Edition PiggyBank is available at a variety of premium liquor stores across the nation for around $200 per 1-liter pig decanter. Official tasting notes are below.
- Nose: Freshly poured in the glass, bright and vibrant notes of mint and dill, with light notes of truffle in the background
- Palate: Black pepper herbaceous rush to greet the pallet, followed by notes of tobacco, citrus peel, and soft spoken anise
- Finish: Classic long and spicy finish with rich oak tannin to round out the experience
