Westward Whiskey Introduces All-Oregon Bottling Of Its American Single Malt

Westward Whiskey just introduced its next Whiskey Club release, Westward American Single Malt Elements: High Desert to Klamath Basin.

And while every whiskey made by Westward is said to be inspired by the American Northwest, this first release in the Elements series explores the region’s provenance, a representation of the distiller’s Oregon home.

The High Desert to Klamath Basin single malt is made from elements sourced from Oregon, including two-row spring barley developed at Oregon State University. The barley varietal is called Full Pint, and is grown all around Klamath, Oregon.

In addition, this single malt features a select blending from barley grown and malted in Madras, in Oregon’s central high desert, and the liquid is finished in Garryana (Oregon white oak) casks from Oregon Barrel Works, the Pacific Northwest’s only cooperage.

The new single malt is bottled at 90 proof and comes with a suggested retail price of about $100 750ml. It’s available now for pre-order to Whiskey Club members at www.westwardwhiskey.com.

“We are products of our environment: not just of the climate and soil, but of the food and beverage, the people, and the culture,” said Miles Munroe, Westward’s lead distiller and blender, in a prepared statement. “This whiskey represents the best of the Northwest. The barley is bred, grown and malted by friends around Oregon; the Garryana oak for the barrels is grown on land around us and coopered in Oregon wine country; and the yeast is isolated and cultivated in Portland. Westward American Single Malt Elements is a deep dive into what makes Oregon such an exceptional place.”

The distiller’s notes show the single malt to have floral aromas of moss, confectioners’ sugar, and ripe red apple. The palate brings tastes of salted caramel, cedar, butterscotch, and coconut cream with a finish featuring notes of toffee, dried figs, roasted filberts, and sponge cake.

The Westward Whiskey Club launched in 2019 and now reaches consumers in 30 states. Members are granted exclusive access to club-only whiskey releases and club-only events led by Westward’s team of experts.

There are two tiers, as Expedition Club members will receive one bottle of whiskey in Westward’s four yearly Club releases (approx. $100 quarterly), and Founder’s Club members will get three bottles each quarter (approx. $300 quarterly).
