Westward Introduces Fourth Benefit Barrel Whiskey Release

Westward Whiskey, an American single malt producer, recently announced the second 2021 Westward Benefit Barrel release to benefit charities focused on homelessness and food insecurity.

The fourth release in Westward’s Benefit Barrel series, which contributes 100% of proceeds to various causes that affect the community, will raise money for Oregon’s Transition Projects and California’s No Us Without You. So far, they have raised nearly $20,000 for the various causes.

The 2021 Westward Benefit Barrel release, a blend of two single barrels, was hand-picked by Lead Distiller & Blender Miles Munroe, who chose what’s described as two casks of exceptional taste that were barreled on the same day five years apart.

They are bottled at 100 proof and priced at $99.95 for 750ml bottles. The release is available through Westward’s tasting rooms and online.

Sales made in Oregon will benefit the Transition Projects, which gives people services, resources and tools to end homelessness, secure housing and maintain that housing. They provide more than 800 people with shelter at night and 500 people with basic needs through their resource center every day.

Sales outside Oregon will benefit the California No Us Without You, a public charity created by Va’La Hospitality, a bar consultancy group. The organization provides food relief to hospitality workers affected by the pandemic. They provide food security to more than 1,600 families and distribute more than 160,000 pounds of food each week.

“At Westward, we’re guided daily by our values statement, an ethos penned collaboratively by our team. Fittingly, it begins by focusing on our community: ‘We take care of our own, and our friends and neighbors,”’ Thomas Mooney, Founder & CEO of Westward Whiskey said in a prepared statement. “We have always sought to foster a sense of togetherness and community in all that we do, and the release of our next Benefit Barrel only furthers this commitment.”

The distillery said its official tasting notes were aromas of mint, citrus, floral, chocolate and nutty. On the palate, its creamy malt, leather, candied apple and tobacco, with a melon, hazelnut, pecan and orange zest finish.
