Stranahan’s Releasing Extra Añejo Cask Finished American Single Malt

Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey recently announced the second expression in its annual Diamond Peak release … Diamond Peak Batch #2: Extra Añejo Cask.

A statement from Stranahan’s notes that the single-malt maker will release Diamond Peak into the market yearly, each a new limited-release, creative cask.

This year, the distiller noted, the Diamond Peak Batch #2: Extra Añejo Tequila Cask is a result of a collaboration between Stranahan’s and Reserva de la Familia, the extra añejo tequila made from the Jose Cuervo family’s special reserves.

The Diamond Peak Batch #2: Extra Añejo Cask features Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey that’s aged five to eight years before a finishing of two years in extra añejo aged casks that previously held the Jose Cuervo family’s small-batch tequila, Reserva de Familia.

The result, the distiller notes, is a unique blend of rich, complex, and smooth flavors. The single malt has a burst of brightness that’s herbal, peppery, and with a touch of agave sweetness.

The whiskey itself is first distilled from 100% malted barley and made in small batches at Stranahan’s distillery. Five to eight-year-old Stranahan’s American Single Malt Whiskey comes from virgin American oak barrels with #3 char. The whiskey is transferred into extra añejo tequila casks, where it’s finished for two years.

Stranahan’s Extra Añejo Tequila Cask comes bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), and has a suggested retail price of $79.99 for a 750ml bottle.
