St. George Puts Baller Single Malt Into Wider Distribution

California based pioneer craft distillery St. George Spirits is known to whiskey lovers primarily for its yearly American single malt release. It also has a rather fascinating Japanese influenced expression known as Baller that has been a sleeper hit for them. The whiskey has been virtually impossible to get hold of outside of its home state, which is something that’s now being addressed with a slightly wider release plan.

The St. George Baller Single Malt Whiskey, according to those behind it, is distilled from 100% American barley, making it an American single malt in style. After distillation in pot stills it is aged for three to four years in a combination of ex-bourbon and French oak wine casks before being filtered through maple charcoal. It is then finished in casks that once held umeshu (a Japanese style of stone fruit liqueur) made from Calfornia-grown ume fruit.

Originally available only in California, the distillery has said it will increase distribution for it in small amounts starting this spring to Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington. No price was immediately given.

Tasting profile wise, Baller is said to be “crisp and dry, with a touch of malt sweetness and a lingering smoky finish.” We reviewed it when it first came out a few years back, with our reviewer at the time noting this is exactly the kind of whiskey that keeps one in love with the category.
