Jack Daniel’s 2014 Holiday Select Whiskey Turns To Single Barrels To Provide For Unique Depth

jack-holiday2014With it being the holidays and all, one thing that is for sure for Jack Daniel’s fans is that it is Holiday Select Tennessee whiskey time. Marking its fourth iteration this year, the bottling is a limited time offering, according to the distillery, that’s available only in select markets.

Jack Daniel’s 2014 Holiday Select is a single barrel Tennessee whiskey meaning that, for this year’s release, it was the first time that the whiskey brand’s master distiller Jeff Arnett chose barrels to be bottled individually. It is said he wanted “to showcase the depth and richness that a single barrel can offer and selected the most robust and complex whiskey he sampled.”

As an interesting side note, the whiskey for this release was drawn from barrels in the Jack Daniel’s Barrel Tree, which consists of 140 barrels stacked around 8 meters tall that was hand built in Lynchburg, Tennessee to remind those at the distillery about “the true meaning of Christmas.” You can learn more about this via the video at the end of this post.

The bottling, which clocks in at a nice 96 proof, is seeing an average price of around $60 at various online retailers. It should also be available for special order through many liquor retailers that regularly sell Jack Daniel’s products. Tasting notes I’ve been seeing floating around online indicate “the boldness of oak and the sweetness of vanilla and caramel.”
