California Cowboy Releases Rye Whiskey

California Cowboy Whiskey recently announced the release of its California Cowboy Rye Whiskey.

Bottled at 88 proof, the new release contains a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% barley. Due to the especially high rye content, it has what’s said to be a bold, spicy character. Official tasting notes make mention of raw grains, mellow fruits and spices in the flavor profile, as well as notes of cinnamon and cardamom.

The new release joins the distillery’s bourbon release, a sweet bourbon with official tasting notes of vanilla, sweet corn and malt. The bourbon was distilled in Kentucky (the rye in Indiana) and aged for a minimum of two years in new charred oak barrels with no added flavors or colors, before being bottled in California.

California Cowboy recommends partnering it for their signature Palomino cocktail, a classic Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. The distillery’s website also includes unique recipes to use its bourbon or rye in, including Gold Rush Irish Coffee, Gun-Slinging Sour, Wild Horse Julep, A Cowboy in Manhattan, San Diego Sunset and Cali Mudslide.

A portion of profits from both releases is donated to the Wild Horse Sanctuary, located in Shingletown, California. The Sanctuary began rescuing unwanted wild horses in 1978 and provides 5,000 acres of mountain meadow and forest land for these horses. Its mission is to protect and preserve America’s wild horses by providing a range sanctuary in an ecologically balanced environment. The Wild Horse Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

California Cowboy’s Rye Whiskey is currently available for preorder on the distillery’s website for a retail price of $36.99.
