Berkshire Mountain Distillers Releases Fall ‘Craft Brewers Whiskey Project’ Offerings

Berkshire Mountain Distillers recently released three new whiskeys sourced from popular craft beer brewers Smuttynose Brewing, Brewery Ommegang, and Captain Lawrence Brewing … part of the ongoing Craft Brewers Whiskey Project.

These whiskeys are part of a six-year collaboration led by Berkshire Mountain and includes the distilling of a dozen beers from a limited collection of Northeast American craft brewers.

Last July, the Craft Brewers Whiskey Project was cited in the 2021 US Open Whiskey & Spirits Grand National Championship where Jack’s Abby Smoke & Dagger Whiskey won a Gold Medal.

And this led Berkshire Mountain to distill another round of whiskies from brewers including Big Elm Brewing, Two Roads Brewing, and Night Shift Brewing.

“There’s a wonderful amalgamation between the craft spirits and beer worlds, a lot of people who drink whiskey also love craft beer,” said Chris Weld, founder of Berkshire Mountain, in a prepared statement. “We’re excited these whiskeys are finally ready to be enjoyed and people are taking notice.”

Weld said that featured in this most recent fall release, the hearty malt build of Really Old Brown Dog Strong Ale from Smuttynose brings hints of wildflower honey and mandarin peel plus a slightly spicy finish of ginger snap to the Berkshire Mountain whiskey.

Rich and complex, he noted, Brewery Ommegang’s Three Philosophers is a blend of Belgian-style quadrupel and Belgian kriek, which gives this whiskey a malty depth and gentle sweetness with a touch of cherry.

And Weld said that Liquid Gold from Captain Lawrence is a Belgo-American Ale, light golden in color and packed with flavor bringing notes of clove and citrus to the finished whiskey.

The first releases of the Craft Brewers Whiskey Project were distilled from six Massachusetts brewers including Samuel Adams, Berkshire Brewing Company, Jack’s Abby, Massachusetts Bay Brewing, Spencer Brewery, and Big Elm Brewing. The final whiskey release during the holiday season will highlight Long Trail, Two Roads, and Chatham Brewing.

The craft brew whiskeys are sold in the Berkshire Mountain tasting room and available in select stores in the Northeast.
