American Whiskey Set Free

Whiskey is something we all love, a passion we share in greatly. It brings people together, puts big smiles on our faces and gives us a way to pass the time. There is whiskey a plenty out there to do this with, but Westward Whiskey is one in particular to get excited about.

Westward Whiskey is American whiskey, not as we used to think about it, but as we should see the future be for whiskey from the United States. Unique. Defined not by the traditional boundaries of bourbon, but instead pushing the cutting edge of American single malt, a coming of age whiskey style that is as individual as our bold nation.

Westward, as a leader in this category, aims to embrace all that is American. An entrepreneurial dream, it started as a small business like so many other well loved brand names of today. And who doesn’t love an American business success story?

What drives the Westward narrative is the idea of a forging of their own path, taking the concepts of place (their humble beginnings in the Pacific Northwest), people (those behind this whiskey) and process (how their brown spirit is uniquely made), and blending these all together into something you can sip from a glass as you ponder its depths.

Where is Westward from? A place of rugged beauty and unspoiled nature that brings to their whiskey the best of ingredients. Influenced by the four seasons, the true star here is the barley grain that make the heart of what this whiskey is, being sourced from fertile lands that share the Northwest region with the distillery.

The people? Like you. True Americans with a dream to make something great and unique. Skilled workers and creative individuals that pool their talents into a collective to craft a special spirit worthy of acknowledging the traditions of whiskey making, but also done under a mindset that takes things way beyond the boundaries of what is to what can be.

And the process? Magical. The best of what whiskey making can be. Brewing an American ale, the base of the whiskey, with local barley grain and a specialized fermentation process. Distilling the ale through custom, low reflux pot stills to make a hearty spirit. Aging that spirit in lightly charred American oak barrels until the timing is just right. Bringing what’s in those barrels together into small batches to develop a whiskey unique to Westward’s balanced and bold flavor profile.

And being that there’s now a perfect American whiskey in front of you passionately crafted by folks as unique as you, a perfect moment to enjoy it is during that most American of times – summer. Summer, like American single malt whiskey, speaks to us of special days, gatherings with friends and family, a slower time meant to savor and enjoy traditions old and new.

How do you enjoy it though? Responsibly, of course – that’s first and foremost. This can be a sipper, enjoyed in a rocks glass by itself or over ice as you sit on a bar patio or in your summer lawn chair in your backyard amongst loved ones. Or, if you’re grilling, why not in a cocktail such as a special Old Fashioned recipe we’ve presented below?

So yes, Westward is an American whiskey. It’s American because it’s crafted by Americans, inspired by a part of America and drank by Americans. It’s not bourbon, it’s not rye – it’s innovation in a glass that honors tradition while also sparking change. And, after all, aren’t innovation and change things that make our country a truly great place to live? We think so.
