Tasting Notes:

About:
A blend of grain whiskies finished for eight years in new American white oak barrels.
Appearance:
Light-medium amber
Nose:
Floral at first, with sweet jasmine and rosy Turkish delight, before fading to light potpourri. Powdered sugar coating fresh, fluffy doughnuts. Hints of lemon-scented polish, cedarwood and sarsaparilla. Very seedy sourdough bread and pine nuts. Maple syrup, ripe banana, and semi-sweet chocolate. Sweetened soy milk.
Palate:
Dusty florals, like inhaling a little too close to the potpourri bowl. Continuing maple syrup with hints of roasted chestnut, prunes, and light soy sauce. Lemon- and lime-flavored hard candies. Blackberry compote and rich mocha.
Finish:
Blackberry and apple turnovers, crusted with demerara sugar, some light tannin paring back the sweetness.
Comments:
This had several twists and turns that surprised me, given its style, age and ABV. Shows off a richer side to grain whiskey and provides a great example of what nuances can be achieved in blending them.
