Tasting Notes

About:

Craigellachie 13 Year Old is crafted using traditional worm tub condensers, giving it a thicker mouthfeel. Aged primarily in bourbon casks, it’s bottled at natural color without chill-filtration.
Appearance:
Old gold. Inside and out.
Nose:
As with all good whiskies, vanilla is prominent. Despite not being near a beach, there is a salty sea air note, followed by a shoreside arable farm.
Palate:
There are gingerbread flavours appearing here with a lovely, light cereal malt note.
Finish:
Segueing through from the palate, this dram is refreshing, like the first cold winds through from Summer to Autumn. The orange leaves scattering across the ground and the rustle of the branches ahead.
Comments:
For me, above the dram, the packaging alone is really unique, in that it looks like it hasn’t ever changed from the 1930s. It is very easily recognised, and presents an err of Wonka about it, with the distillery illustration on the front, as well as a cheery logo forming a half bridge shape in the smoke from the chimney. Its age is easily read from afar too. It would just make a great addition to any cabinet.
