Tasting Notes:

About:
The latest release in The Glenturret Still Life Collection by Bob Dalgarno. The Glenturret Still Life Summer is inspired by the Scottish countryside, and the surroundings at The Glenturret Distillery, at the height of summer. It was bottled at 40.5% ABV in a Lalique decanter. Only 105 bottles were produced.
Appearance:
Golden Brown (Texture Like Sun)
Nose:
Chocolate fudge cake, caramel, dates, raisins, malted biscuits, vanilla cream, cardamon, olive oil, fresh pears, white grapes and satsumas. A journey from very rich to light and fruity.
Palate:
More of those fresh fruits popping in now. A huge note of fresh pear and white grapes, green apple, so many fresh fruit juices! That was really unexpected. A good chunk of herbal elements to this one, thyme, oregano and some dill notes – almost stepping into liquorice but not as potent as that can be. Cinnamon and star anise pop to being some floral elements to the herbs, but after that we get the start it this subtlety smoky, drying, ginger feel to the whole thing.
Finish:
Some welcome dryness, bitterness, perhaps even a little touch of peat smoke in this one that appears to linger throughout the finish. But it isn’t intense, it’s just a long, gentle wave of the stuff. Buttery oak on the finish too, very reminiscent of great Chardonnay.
Comments:
I feel this is the weakest of the three releases, even with that possible touch of smoke that the whisky has. It isn’t bad in anyway, but the other two just shine a little brighter.
