Like Conversation

Tasting Notes:

About:
A Canadian single malt crafted from 100% malted barley grains and distilled in copper. It is bottled at 45% ABV and priced at $54.99.
Appearance:
This is a lovely lighter amber gold in glass, supported by moderate legs and light viscosity.
Nose:
The aromatics of this are extremely light and ethereal, revealing slight elements of fresh-baked banana muffins, maple candy, a slight oak nod, some cinnamon, and strawberries.
Palate:
The palate is soft, buttery, and incredibly smooth, in reflection of typical Crown Royal. Flavor considerations include tasty baked bread, a slight maple undertone, crisp green apples, coriander, and a subtle root beer.
Finish:
This finishes simple and clean, with a slight sweetness, leading to a smooth, short ending.
Comments:
Crown Royal Canadian Single Malt Whisky represents one of the more interesting recent forays of larger legacy brands into the world of single malt. It is indeed smooth, which is a bit unusual for this type of whisky, but for those new to the category, it makes it that much more approachable.

Crown Royal is a spirits juggernaut that needs little introduction. The world’s number one-selling Canadian whisky brand, it was initially specially blended to commemorate a grand tour of Canada made by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain in 1939. It is known for its purple bag and super smooth flavor.

The Crown Royal line-up is across the board in price point and style, with super-aged expressions alongside a number of flavored releases. The flagship is Crown Royal Fine De Luxe, or, as most people simply refer to it, Crown Royal.

What’s in the bottle

The whisky being reviewed here, Crown Royal Canadian Single Malt Whisky, represents what is likely one of the most expanded horizons this brand has ever taken – venturing into the world of Canadian single malts. According to Crown Royal, this whisky “pays homage to the brand’s Canadian roots by being distilled at its iconic Valleyfield Distillery, the premier French-speaking whisky distillery in North America.

“Crafted from 100% malted barley grains and distilled in copper, the whisky is ‘cut from the cold,’ using Canada’s cool climate and topography to distill the whisky delicately.”

“We’re proud to continue our tradition and legacy of trailblazing with the newest addition to our portfolio, Crown Royal Single Malt Canadian Whisky. As a leader in whisky, we’re shaking up the category with this new innovation – defined by our signature smoothness and unique, Canadian origin,” stated Jesse Damashek, Senior Vice President North American Whiskeys at Diageo, when this whisky was released.”Our take on this single malt is truly distinct, every piece of it tells a story – from its  origin and distillation process to its stunning packaging design.

“Cut from the Canadian cold, this Single Malt offers our consumers a whisky that can be enjoyed on any occasion.”

Crown Royal Canadian Single Malt Whisky, bottled at 45% ABV, is priced at $54.99.
