Scotch Whisky Review: Cask Masters Inchmurrin 10 Year Old

This Cask Masters release has been solely matured in first fill ex-bourbon, a perfect way to let the tropical fruits and hedonistic qualities of Inchmurrin shine though.

Tasting Notes:

About:
A more tropical distillate produced by the folks at Loch Lomond. Taking advantage of their straight neck copper pot stills, the Inchmurrin distillate is this very tasty cross over of tropical fruit and classic highland spiciness. This Cask Masters release has been solely matured in first fill ex-bourbon, a perfect way to let the tropical fruits and hedonistic qualities of Inchmurrin shine though.
Appearance:
Chablis
Nose:
A candy shop! This has all of those hard boiled peach and watermelon candy notes running around it. A little bit of lemon and lime sneaking in as well.

A perfect aroma as we settle into spring. There’s a real aroma of lemonade coming out of this and I can feel the tingle of sunlight on my skin as that smell runs around the glass. Then something subtle and herbaceous in the back, a little sage and basil.
Palate:
Soft, sweet, mellow and still full of all of this tropical fruit. A perfect example of Inchmurrin! Watermelon, peaches, guava, lemon oil, lime juice, lemon drizzle cake! There’s some delicious sponge cake notes starting to pull through it now.
Finish:
A little nuttier and spicier than the rest of the whisky would dictate, but it\’s welcome to contrast the sweetness that happens before. There’s a creamy note of cashew and a little tang of oak spice that finishes off in an almost espresso note.
Comments:
This is really fun. Inchmurrin is a darling when it comes to independent bottlings. They’re always tropical and decadent, but the finishes always vary. The way this one goes is a perfect contrast to that naturally fruity spirit. Loch Lomond (who produce this spirit) really do nail this style down.

In the event they were to produce more of it, I can only see this going down well as a perfect and more affordable contrast to a lot of Japanese whiskies. It has the alluring nose and loads of depth. Casks obviously vary the final product of everything, especially with single casks, but this style is delicious!
