Tasting Notes

About:

One of the most key foundational American whiskeys to have ever existed. Produced by the most awarded distillery in the world, Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon is a stunning entry point to this distillery’s range. It is also a very utilitarian product that is enjoyed in homes and bars across the whole world.
Appearance:
Orange
Nose:
There’s something about Buffalo Trace mash-bill No.1 that is so driven by apple notes. Not only are you getting the classic vanilla, caramel, slightly oaky notes form this – but the aroma of fresh green apple, slightly tangy fruit and even a hit of strawberry that comes out of this is so unique to Buffalo Trace.
Palate:

A good quality bourbon that has a little more on the nose than it does on the palate. We’ve got a start of soft, gentle oak that gives way to some softer fruit notes. The green apple note still dominating the profile. Little hints of rye spice, caramel sauce, a little milk chocolate, and even a far off note of espresso are running through this.

Finish:
It’s a decent finish for an entry level product. It lingers around nicely with some more rye spice, oak, brown sugar, and some baked fruit notes. It feels rather Christmas driven if I’m being honest, Very moreish.
Comments:
I always get a little blown away when I see the lengths people will go to to try and find this product. Over here in the UK it is one of the easiest bottles to get a hold of anywhere, but in America, I’ve seen people fight over bottles in liquor stores. It’s a good entry level, but in all honesty you’d probably have a better overall experience with Evan Williams Bottled in Bond, Woodford Reserve, or Knob Creek.
