Tasting Notes

About:

A 21-year-old Scotch single malt finished for around nine months in Malbec French Oak wine casks sourced from Argentina. It is bottled at 46% ABV and priced around $280.
Appearance:
The glass has distinctively golden-amber single malt within, touched by a slight red tinge. The legs and viscosity are incredibly well-defined.
Nose:
The aromatics on this are mature and complex, with layers of rich, red berry fruits and oak intertwined. Undercurrents of black currants, marmalade, a wisp of smoke, sweet custard, and marzipan are present.
Palate:
Palate-wise, it is easy to get lost in this one in a positive way, as a very dry, luscious berry opening draws you down long, winding paths. Joining the tastebuds’ journey is luscious brown sugar, a nibble of coriander, oak, of course, chocolate velvet cupcake, sweet cream butter, and some deep dark raspberry.
Finish:
This finish is stunning. It kisses the back palate with a nice dry red wine moment backed by a hint of smoke that drifts away incredibly slowly.
Comments:
The depth and mature nature of the Aberfeldy 21-Year-Old Argentinian Malbec Cask Finish cannot be denied – it is true whisky mastery in a glass. A symphony of flavors that showcases once again this distillery’s ability to make use of unique red wine barrels from around the world to finish already exceptional Scotch.
