Tasting Notes:

About:
A Heaven Hill bourbon aged for ten years and bottled at 100 proof. It is priced at $139.99.
Appearance:
The bourbon’s amber-brown color indicates solid legs and viscosity within the glass.
Nose:
This opens up on the nose precisely as you’d expect Old Fitzgerald to do so, with warm and vibrant notes of decadent vanilla, oak, a nod of orange peel, a little bit of caramel, a touch of spice, and some brown sugar.
Palate:
Like on the nose, this is classic Old Fitzgerald BiB on the palate. Delicious and well-balanced, it has flavors of warming oak, a nod of sweet vanilla, a little spice, some dried orange peel, a kiss of cherries, and a backer of caramel.
Finish:
The finish is clean and to the point, leaving a warm, sweet sensation that lingers for as long as you hope it would.
Comments:
Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Spring 2024 Kentucky Straight Bourbon continues moving the marker for an outstanding, ongoing series from Heaven Hill. It presents itself as well-balanced and well-done in the best bourbon ways.

Editor’s Note: We received a review sample of this whiskey from the brand. However, in accordance with our editorial policies, this has not influenced the outcome of our review in any way.

As it now does twice a year, going back for the first time to 2018, Heaven Hill likes to bring to market its Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond offerings. Inspired by an original 1950s Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter, this whiskey (1) usually represents some of the best this legacy Kentucky distillery has to offer, and (2) is designed to pay homage to the history of the Old Fitzgerald brand.

For those unfamiliar with it, the Old Fitzgerald label first appeared in 1884 and, at one point, was under the watch of a well-known Van Winkle. Heaven Hill acquired it in 1999 and distills it at its Bernheim facility in Louisville.

What’s in the bottle

The Spring 2024 edition of Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which is what’s being reviewed here, is the thirteenth national release in the series. Clocking in at ten years of age and bottled at 100 proof to meet in part the requirements to be called bottled-in-bond, this Spring edition is bottled like those before it in an ornate style decanter that a green label denotes this time.

Also, as was the case for the past editions, this edition’s tax strip, which has always been a signature of transparency on bottled-in-bond products, discloses when the liquid was produced and bottled.

“Heaven Hill’s stewardship of the Old Fitzgerald brand over the past quarter century has honored the legacy of John E. Fitzgerald,” said Heaven Hill Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll at the time of this bourbon’s release. “The Spring release showcases the premium quality and craftsmanship of Old Fitzgerald which has been cherished by fans, not just for decades, but for generations.”

Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Spring 2024 Kentucky Straight Bourbon is priced at $139.99.
