Milam & Greene Bottled in Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey review

Tasting Notes

About:

Bourbon distilled from a mash bill of 70% corn, 22% malted rye, and 8% malted barley; aged at least four years; bottled at 100 proof; priced at $64.99.
Appearance:
There is a very prototypical darker golden-amber color in this glass, showcasing moderate legs and thicker viscosity.
Nose:
The aromatics of this bourbon reflect the influence of rye in the profile, but the malted aspect of this grain twists things up. Notes to consider here include baked rye bread, lovely vanilla intermingled with oak nuances, warm cherry pie, a slight undercurrent of black pepper, and yummy molasses.
Palate:
Like on the nose, the malted rye that’s second in command behind the corn plays with the palate differently versus its non-malted sibling. You’ll want to spend some time with this one, enjoying noteworthy palate pleasantries such as vanilla cream pie, brown sugar, a caramel back bite, a kiss of oak, some coriander, a subtle maple candy, and a weird cherry tagalong.
Finish:
This is a pleasant and not-overly aggressive finish, carrying itself on a slightly more sweet side into oblivion in a moderate amount of time.
Comments:
If you’re looking for a unique spin on a bottled-in-bond bourbon, given the malted rye presence, you’ve found it in Milam & Greene Bottled in Bond Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is dialed tight, hitting the proper tasting considerations at the right moments. Well done.
