The Heaven Hill lineup of American whiskeys is far and wide, offering a good range of expressions to fit pretty much anyone’s palate. On the wheat side, the Larceny high wheat bourbons, using wheat as the second most used grain in the mash bill instead of rye, has its own following. Having its origins in the history of John E. Fitzgerald and the Old Fitzgerald brand, barrels from specific locations in Heaven Hill’s rickhouses are drawn upon to help keep consistent this wheater bourbon’s flavor profile.
As a variant of Larceny, Heaven Hill releases Larceny Barrel Proof three times a year. In keeping with the name, this is an uncut version aged six to eight years, drawing from the distillery’s wheated mash bill mix of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley. Batch A124, released in January, will be followed by subsequent 2024 offerings in May and September. It is the subject of today’s review.
For those curious about the batch naming process, it is pretty simple – the first letter indicates, according to Heaven Hill, “which of that year’s releases the bottle was a part of starting with ‘A,’ while the second digit is a number that determines the month of the year the bottle was released. The third and fourth digits indicate the year.”
Larceny Barrel Proof Batch A124, bottled at 124.2 proof, or 62.1% ABV, is priced at $64.99.
