Tasting Notes

About:

This is a blend of Hard Truth’s Chocolate Malt Rye and Sweet Mash Bourbon, which has been rested on toasted Amburana. It is bottled at 106 proof and priced at $69.99.
Appearance:
This has a lovely, warm amber color in glass, with moderate legs and viscosity.
Nose:
As you dive into the aromatics, you smell a bit of candy corn and caramel up front, showcasing a toasted chestnut backbone. Other notes include vanilla, a bit of oak, some graham crackers, and a nudge of dark chocolate.
Palate:
A distinct toasted chestnut and warm chocolate note come over the palate as the sip occurs, leading into waves of vanilla, graham crackers, a nip of vanilla, moderate oak, some coriander, and a bit of toasted marshmallow.
Finish:
This finishes somewhat spicy, with a chestnut bump that lingers for a long time.
Comments:
This finished blend of two of Hard Truth’s more popular whiskey expressions hits an interesting note, with the overall flavor profile quite fascinating. It feels a bit off the path for them, but not in a bad way—kudos for trying something unique.
