Blanton’s Bourbon was introduced in 1984 by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, marking the creation of the world’s first commercially available single-barrel bourbon. It was named in honor of Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who served as the distillery’s president during its early 20th-century heyday and was renowned for selecting the best barrels for special bottlings.
Blanton’s became a groundbreaking product, launched during a period when bourbon struggled to find its place in a market dominated by other spirits. Its focus on single-barrel production, innovative at the time, set a new standard for premium bourbon. The barrels used for Blanton’s are exclusively aged in Warehouse H, a metal-clad structure unique for its temperature variations, which enhance the aging process.

Blanton’s Gold
Blanton’s Gold stands out within the brand’s range as a high-proof single-barrel bourbon, bottled at 51.5% ABV (103 proof), offering a bolder experience than its counterparts. Released as a premium export expression, primarily for international markets, it was designed to cater to global enthusiasts seeking a more intense and refined bourbon.
The key differences between Blanton’s Gold and other expressions, like the Original Single Barrel, lie in its proof and market availability. While the Original is bottled at 46.5% ABV (93 proof) and widely distributed, Gold’s higher proof accentuates the flavors and depth, making it a favorite among connoisseurs. Additionally, Gold is rarer, adding an element of exclusivity.
