Tasting Notes

About:

Independent bottler Dramfool’s 30th release included this 30-year-old single grain whisky from the North British Distillery. Distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2020, this well-aged single bourbon cask shows the potential of grain whisky when aged over several decades. At a natural cask strength of 48.2% ABV, the cask yielded only 182 bottles, which were bottled all-natural.

Appearance:
Light-to-medium, dusty, gold. Thick and viscous in the glass with pronounced legs.
Nose:
Dry grain cereal, like running your fingers through a sack of grains. Plenty of vanilla, and some old oak. A hint of banana peel.
Palate:
Medium to full mouthfeel with a creamy texture. Cereal sweetness. Werther’s Original brown butter candies. Ripe apples and pears. Vanilla and a savoury back note. Alcohol is well integrated, adding to the body.
Finish:
Long with sweet cereal fading through that banana peel note from the nose to apple and vanilla.
Comments:
A great example of a well-aged grain whisky. A delightful cereal sweetness, and a good mouthfeel.
