Tasting Notes:

About:
A blended malt from independent bottler Mossburn, released as part of the Cask Collaboration Series. Blending four Speyside malt whiskies, this whisky began its 12-year maturation in bourbon casks before a finishing period in Calvados apple brandy casks from historic French producer Domiane Dupont. Bottled at 57.2% ABV.
Appearance:
Golden Sunrise
Nose:
Sweet aromas on the nose, cooked red apples and pear drop sweets. There’s also notes of vanilla and honey.
Palate:
Sweetness opens on the palate, with the cooked apple and pear drops returning before giving way to flavours of spicy ginger biscuits, with a little pepper and oak. There are hints of roasted almonds in the background.
Finish:
A lingering sweet finish, apples return balanced by a little cinnamon spice – a little like apple pie!
Comments:
The Calvados cask influence is easily discernible on this Mossburn expression, with the sweet apple notes evident throughout the experience of this dram, but there’s a pleasant balance with some spicy notes of ginger and cinnamon – which prevent the sweetness completely dominating.

The four Speyside distilleries which provide the component malts for this blend are not disclosed, but this is a very easy drinking whisky particularly given the 57.2% ABV – although this possibly allows the Calvados influence to best shine through.
