Tasting Notes:

About:

The Lagg Distillery is a peated whisky distillery opened by the Isle of Arran Distillers in 2019. Lagg Corriecravie is the distillery’s second core range release, initially matured in bourbon barrels followed by a 6-month finishing period in ex-Oloroso sherry hogsheads. Bottled at 55% ABV.

Appearance:
Dark Bronze
Nose:
Plenty of sherry, some red berries, rubber, some light smoke and iodine – there’s a slight soapy note. Balanced by sweetness, chocolate coated nuts.
Palate:
A balance between peat and sweet. Opens with toasted wood, and slightly bitter earthy peat with a hint of iodine, before giving way to ashy bonfire smoke, and cured meats – a little pepper. Balanced by rich sherry, chocolate, and nutty hazelnut praline sweetness.
Finish:
Long and lingering, some drying oak and smoke but also waves of chocolate and all spice.
Comments:
There’s not as much sherry influence as expected – a testament to Lagg Corriecravie’s well timed 6-month sherry finish which allows some sherry impact without dominating the whisky. A good balance between peat and sweetness, I like the mix of chocolate, cured meat, and earthy notes.

A very easy drinking whisky at 55% ABV – you could very easily finish a couple of drams.
