Tasting Notes

About:

The Hearach First Fill Oloroso Cask Matured is a small batch single malt from The Isle of Harris Distillery, bottled at 46% without chill filtration or colouring. Following the initial launch of Isle of Harris’s award-winning The Hearach, this release focuses on first-fill Oloroso butts from José y Miguel Martín in Jerez, Spain.

Appearance:
Medium gold. Oily in the glass with slow developing tears.
Nose:
Red apples, redcurrants, red berries. Honeyed oats, like flapjack. Roasted hazelnuts and a savoury cereal note. Vanilla and a touch of wood spice.
Palate:
Medium mouthfeel. Juicy red fruits with more red apples, redcurrants and red berries, joined by orange peel. Creamy vanilla and walnut fudge. Cinnamon and black pepper.
Finish:
Medium to long. Red fruit fades into coffee and cereal, followed by a touch of warming spice.
Comments:
A high quality malt coupled with great oloroso casks. A most enjoyable, tasty, dram.
