Tasting Notes

About:

Fruitful Spirits are whisky cask merchants who trade barrels amongst a fraternity of independent bottlers. But, when they come upon a special liquid, they bottle it themselves. Therefore their emphasis is quality and uniques experiences. This particular single sherry butt yielded but 259 bottles. 57.3% Cask Strength. Fully matured in a single sherry butt.
Appearance:
Cup of strong english breakfast with a shimmer, suggestive of interesting things to come, tail lights in the distance.
Nose:
Old folios, molasses on a hot plate, bergamot, freshly sawn wood.
Palate:
Impact. The tongue gets heat, but after that first punch, a slowly building ball of flavor hits, worcestershire sauce, plum pudding, tobacco, nougat, clean white oak without the sharp tannins.
Finish:
Endless. After the initial blast of fire and flavor, a very long fresh fade of molasses sweetness.
Comments:
Fruitful Spirits has not put out many expressions, but they have all been remarkable. My only quibble on this offering is the heat. Just the smallest amount of water or ice balances the force of the bottling. The character of the liquid, however, overcomes any holding back. The long aging in single sherry butt brings the richness you would expect, but the depths and interest in this bottles’ flavors make it one to store and savor.
