Scotch Whisky Review: Cask Masters Glenlossie 14 Year Old

A very interesting release form the folks at Cask Masters, showcasing a favourite and lesser known Speyside distillery in Glenlossie. A grassy, light, gently peated style of single malt that is often found in Johnnie Walker blends.

Tasting Notes

About:

A very interesting release form the folks at Cask Masters, showcasing a favourite and lesser known Speyside distillery in Glenlossie. A grassy, light, gently peated style of single malt that is often found in Johnnie Walker blends, as well as the odd official bottling. This particular expression has been matured in a first fill white port hogshead, showcasing how summery and gentle Glenlossie can really be.

Appearance:
Schnapps
Nose:
White peach, strawberry, jasmine tea, wafer biscuits, a little spirit driven but Glenlossie has this wonderfully effervescent, fresh fruit aroma to it.
Palate:
A lot of gristy, malted barley flavours, a little beer like in all honesty! Some brioche/yeast notes running around the palate. Very grassy, sweet and light.
Finish:
A little grappa like. It has some rich notes of raisin and sultana but has a warming, gentle feel of Cognac. A little spirit driven but is very fresh and approachable.
Comments:
It isn’t the most complex whisky I’ve ever tried, but complexity doesn’t mean something is great. This is a wonderful bottle to sip on as the weather gets warmer.

If you add water then the spirit driven quality of it does go away to be replaced by more of this fresh peach and strawberry note. A very interesting release with a great combination of single malt spirit style and a perfectly fit barrel.
