Tasting Notes:

About:
One of a trio of releases celebrating Bladnoch’s reopening and the 200th Anniversary of the distillery in 2017. The Bladnoch ‘Adela’, meaning ‘noble’ expression is now discontinued. Matured in ex-Oloroso sherry butts, including both Spanish and American oak, for 15 years, the Bladnoch Adela 15 Year Old was bottled at 46.7% ABV.
Appearance:
Copper Gold
Nose:
Rich sherried aromas on the nose, stewed raisins and fruitcake alongside sweeter notes of toffee, honey and chocolate. A hint of roasted walnuts in the background.
Palate:
Rich and sweet on the palate, very smooth mouthfeel. Lots of rich Oloroso sherry and chocolate, a hint of coffee, and stewed raisins, giving way to some ginger and black pepper spice.
Finish:
A long warming finish, but not drying, with rich Oloroso sherry, a slight nuttiness, and oak.
Comments:
A rich well-balanced and easy drinking whisky, the Oloroso influence including some 1st fill casks is evident throughout. Some enjoyable aromas and flavours of sherry, stewed fruits and chocolate sweetness. The Bladnoch Adela 15 Year Old is now widely discontinued, so if you happen to find one get a bottle while you can. Bladnoch’s latest sherry cask matured core range expression is a 16-Year-Old expression which I’d be interested to compare against the Adela.
