Tasting Notes

About:

Here we have a Benrinnes 13 Year Old from independent bottler James Eadie, released as part of their Single Cask series. Distilled in September 2005, and bottled in January 2019, this Benrinnes whisky was finished in a 1st fill European oak Madeira hogshead (cask 307046) for 11 months. Bottled at a cask strength of 56.1% ABV, without chill filtration of added colouring, the cask yielded 311 bottles.
Appearance:
Medium copper. Thick and viscous in the glass with pronounced legs.
Nose:
Dried fruit macerated in dark sugar syrup with redcurrants, red plums, raisins and figs. Autumnal orchard fruits with red apples and russet pears. Vanilla, clovers and star anise.
Palate:
Medium to full mouthfeel. More of those macerated dried fruits with redcurrants, red plums and raisins. Fruit and nut chocolate. A quality malt backbone. Wood spice with cinnamon, cloves and black pepper. Alcohol is well integrated.
Finish:
Medium length. Autumnal pear and a savoury note end with a touch of warming spice.
Comments:
A most enjoyable dram aged in a good quality madeira cask.
