Tasting Notes

About:

Westland out of Seattle Washington in the United States is a legacy American Single Malt whiskey producer. Westland is one of the original founding distilelries behind the American Single Malt style.

They are rooted in the Pacific Northwest and committed to crafting American Single Malt whiskey “with intention.” From their marketing materials, Westland has always honored the landscape that has inspired our whiskeys. Now, with the launch of our newest brand, Watchpost Whiskey, we are taking that commitment a step further with a blended whiskey that directly supports the trails that connect us to the land, donating back to Washington Trails Association.”

Westland, “We didn’t invent the idea of a whiskey for the great outdoors, but we spent years perfecting one that feels right at home there.”

Blend Components

Westland Five-Malt Mashbill: Aged in New Oak & PX Casks
MGP Grain/Light Whiskey Aged in Ex-Bourbon Barrels
Appearance:
Amber
Nose:
Alcohol, woody (I think oaky), some grainy like a light toast, maybe slight caramel
Palate:
slight viscous, buttery, soft and warming, slight earthy, almost floral, almost fruity, almost grainy
Finish:
Medium hold with a watery mouthfeel, slight almost peaty flavor that’s fleeting at the beginning, tingle linger then late hit of brown/caramelized sugar
Comments:
Solid sipper with a pleasant drinking experience. Seems like maybe the flavors aren’t quite fully developed yet at 8 years but there’s a nice enjoyable base. Cool to see something like this coming from the NW. Would be a fun camping whiskey
