About:

Lost Lantern is always pushing the boundaries of complex whiskey curation. Launched in 2020, Lost Lantern operates as an independent bottler inspired by the traditional Scottish model and has collaborated with more than 40 US distilleries.

“American single malt has rapidly become one of the most dynamic styles of whiskey in the world,” said co-founder and head blender Nora Ganley-Roper. “We are excited for Scotch lovers to join us in exploring the more traditional side of this fast-rising style.”

Five years later, it is time at last for American Vatted Malt Edition No. 2, a.k.a. American Vatted Malt Remix. This new blend shows how American single malt has truly come into its own and emerged as an important style of whiskey on the world stage. This blend takes the very last of the original American Vatted Malt and adds in American single malt from five other world-class distilleries: McCarthy’s in Oregon, Westland in Washington, Whiskey Del Bac in Arizona, Cedar Ridge in Iowa, and Andalusia in Texas.

This eleven-distillery blend, the most expansive we have ever made, captures the depth and breadth of American single malt in one bottle. It is maltier, richer, and slightly smokier than the first American Vatted Malt, and has a higher portion of used oak – so it is a bridge between a traditional Scotch profile and a more new oak-forward American one.

All releases are non-chill-filtered and presented with no added color.

The whiskies will be available online via the company website and Seelbachs.com, as well as in select retail stores.
Appearance:
Burnished
Nose:
What a sophisticated nose on this one! Starts off by opening up with some soft brine before welcoming you with old wood like a cigar box, spices and cooking spices. There is just a hint of thistle right at the back.
Palate:
Malted sugars just coat the mouth with just a soft hint of smoke. There is a creamy smooth caramel mid-palate which finds cedar and oak. Towards the middle end of the taste there is a blend of cola to provide a sugar depth to the profile. The sip is warming and complex but very pleasurable.
Finish:
Oily mouthfeel that coats the palate warmly. We find malted grains and cola right out of the gate. the profile changes to holding on the tongue giving way to softer grains and a touch of heat that warms and cleanses the palate.
Comments:
Simply put, I’m a fan. Great profile which is very reminiscent of a highland Scotch. Great balance, approachable, and not so meaty you don’t know how to process the flavors. Still a bit young with some edges which take away from the depth of flavor but nothing on balance that is too distracting. This was almost like a nice custard, creamy with a good amount of sugar.

I’d sip this happily after a meal, with a cigar, or outside cooking. Even Ron Burgundy himself would enjoy a glass of this.
