Tasting Notes

About:

This 10-year-old Straight Bourbon Whiskey was distilled from a classic corn-forward mash bill (77% corn) and aged in deeply charred American oak barrels.

Now it has a growing core range of utterly delicious whiskies, all in 700ml bottles.

Appearance:
Dark Gold
Nose:

Buttery corn and a little touch of spicy rye on the nose. As this is a new regular release, it’s such a great example of a classic bourbon nose. Vanilla, butter, sweetcorn, desiccated coconut, toffee popcorn, mint toffees, soft rye spices that move around the nose like nutmeg and cinnamon sugar. A great classic bourbon nose.

Palate:
Gentle and very easy-going at the start. You get a little tickle of barrel spice and a small wave of oak moving over your tongue. The mint notes really come alive here. It’s still reminiscent of toffee and freshness, but it does lean a little heavier here. You still get the butter, and a really nice brown butter note that takes over from the mint-driven style.
Finish:
More oak that runs a little bitter, but not in an unpleasant way. The finish almost works like the Campari element of a Negroni cocktail, it’s bitter but quite welcoming at the same time.
Comments:
It’s a great, easy-going style of bourbon, and something that isn’t expensive either. Boutique-y are an incredible bottler of all types of whisky, but it’s nice to see some core bottles added to the range.

This isn’t a product that’s going to blow your mind in any way, it’s just a good, solid bottle from a bottler that you may have passed by at this point. I haven’t mixed this or added any additional ingredients to it, but I can see this working well in an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan cocktail. It’s got sweetness and decently potent mint and barrel notes to cut through other products.
