The Ultimate Review: Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select

For me, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is a reliable and delicious step up from the standard JD expression.

Tasting Notes

About:

Originally launched in 1997, this was the first time that Jack Daniel’s was able to tasted in its most natural state with no blending and minus being at cask strength. A few higher proof versions have been released over the years, but the regular release is a much-loved and very affordable single barrel American whiskey.

Appearance:
Light Molasses.
Nose:
What a smell! So much of those deep caramels and even a slight saltiness to this batch in particular. You’ve got toffee apples, brown sugar, vanilla custard, sweet sugar syrups, Angostura bitters, and a little touch of barrel spice.
Palate:
It’s so much richer and bigger than it’s junior bottles. At the higher strength it has such rich viscosity that coats all of the corners of your mouth. The extra alcohol does make the dryness come around a little quick, but before all of that you have custard, vanilla, brown sugar, banana bread, and even some citrus oils like orange and lemon.
Finish:
It reminds me so much of brown sugar and good quality coffee. It’s dark, rich, sweet, it even has a really easy finish for a higher proof version of Jack Daniel’s. An excellent long finish with loads of sweet notes.
Comments:
One of the best value single barrel American whiskeys you can buy in the market today. It also showcases how versatile Jack Daniel’s can be as every single barrel will be a little different.

Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by The Whiskey Wash or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. Per our editorial policies, this in no way influenced the outcome of this review.
