The English Distillery, the oldest licensed whisky distillery in England, is preparing to celebrate 18 years since its opening in 2007. Established in Norfolk by the Nelstrop family, The English Distillery has served as a pioneering force in the ever-expanding world of English whisky

In celebration of the distillery’s 18th birthday, the Nelstrop family has lined up a host of limited-edition releases and also plans to host a birthday party at the distillery this September.

The Mysterious English Distillery Special Releases

As of yet, no details have been given about the limited edition whiskies that we can expect to see from The English Distillery. The only detail given so far is that the first of the whiskies will be unveiled on June 7th.

A Royal History

It may well be that one of the whiskies calls back to The English Distillery’s royal beginnings; the distillery was officially opened by His Majesty King Charles III (then HRH The Prince of Wales) in 2007.

Upon his visit, the then-Prince was gifted two casks of whisky from The English Distillery. Charles then signed the casks, which have been maturing in Bond 1 for the past 18 years. This detail was included in a recent press release from the distillery about the upcoming anniversary. The reference to King Charles–signed casks is notable. Could the distillery be hinting at a special release timed with the celebrations?

The English Distillery 18th Birthday Party

Whilst we might be left to wonder about the upcoming releases for a few more days, fans of The English Distillery already have the opportunity to grab tickets for The English Distillery Birthday Party, to be held at the distillery on Saturday, September 13th, 2025.

The celebration promises a lively day out for whisky fans and families alike. Guests can look forward to live music from Cameron & Jordan, a mouth-watering line-up of food including The Grain Kitchen, Peaky Pizzas, Thai and ice cream vans, plus barista coffee from Florenco’s. Free, ticketed entry gives you access to speedy behind-the-scenes tours of the distillery.

Additionally, the distillery is offering a ‘Get Medieval Knight School’ experience, complete with soft kit sword-fighting sessions for children and thrilling full-contact combat displays by fully armoured knights. For £10 per ticket, kids can book a session in advance or on the day and step into the world of medieval chivalry, learning authentic techniques and etiquette with safe, modern equipment. Once they’ve earned their knighthood, families can stay to watch the professionals battle it out in a series of armoured displays.
