Raising A Glass To Robert Burns
Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at the SMWS, emphasizes the release’s significance: “This Burns Night release embodies our commitment to adventures in flavour and the spirit of togetherness that Burns himself celebrated. Just as Burns’s poetry brings people together at this time of year, we see whisky fans coming together to raise a glass of this exceptional whisky.
Tasting Profile
According to the Society’s Tasting Panel, ‘Supper Sipper’ presents a complex flavor journey. Initial notes feature Assam tea, malted barley and caramelized orange zest. The palate delivers rocky road characteristics, combining milk and dark chocolate with coconut and glacé cherries. Adding water transforms the dram, revealing cocktail-inspired notes of cranberry, maple syrup, and tropical mango.
Burns Night Nationwide Celebrations
The Society is extending the Burns Night festivities through 12 special tasting events across the UK. Scottish venues include Aberdeen, Melrose, and Inverness, while English locations feature Manchester, Newcastle, and Harrogate. These events, open to both members and non-members, offer participants the chance to sample six single cask whiskies alongside a traditional Burns Supper of haggis, neeps and tatties.
Campbell adds: “We’ve selected a cask that not only honours the tradition of the Burns Supper but invites our whole whisky community to explore new flavour perspectives. Whether you’re joining us at one of our special events or enjoying a dram at home, Supper Sipper is the perfect dram to raise a glass to Scotland’s poetic and whisky heritage.”
The release, scheduled for January 14th, positions SMWS to lead Burns Night celebrations with this carefully curated expression that bridges traditional Scottish culture with contemporary whisky appreciation.
